I had the honor of being an early reader for L.J. Sellers' new futuristic thriller, The Arranger. It was well written, sported a riveting storyline, but the world building for her near future 2023 was so carefully crafted and perfectly executed that I felt it deserved a feature here, where I so often discuss world building for paranormal romance novels.
True, the only 'para'-normal element of Sellers' book is that it's set in the future, but there are all kinds of things writers can learn

Adopted Greyhounds Sight Hounds Or Ear-hounds?
Through 20 plus years of adopted greyhounds and foster greyhounds, I've developed some pretty solid opinions of these incredible dogs. I love them - fine I'm better labeled an adopted greyhound addict - and their many quirks and unique personality traits amuse me.
Adopted greyhounds are sight hounds, which is a rather obvious way of saying they are visual animals. They hunt, or race, when something catches their interest. The fake rabbit at the track, the squirrel or bird in the back yard,

The Same But Different Behind The Publishing Scenes
As a relatively new indy paranormal romance author, I've found continuing changes in publishing mean the same team of support personnel, but at different stages and often hired in different ways than the prior career publishing models. Publishing may be in flux, but it's not all happening at the wholesale/retail stage of the business.

New Perspective For This Paranormal Romance Author
Perspective matters when you're world building for a paranormal romance novel- or any genre really. Perspective of individual characters, between characters, and as it relates to the conflict or situation.
But lately, I've realized just how quickly perspective can change in real life.
As we moved our daughter off to college and I find my 'nest' is now half empty, my perspective has changed. The ripples can be felt in my increased productivity as well as the new, real world building

Sales Labels for Paranormal Romance Novels
I think there's a general misconception that paranormal romance authors only write for women. If a man writes action or adventure novels with even a hint of romance, it's a thriller. Add in a paranormal element and it will likely be labeled horror.
Of course that's a sweeping statement, a blatant generality, rather than an actual study of fact based on book labels and reader preferences and paranormal romance author gender.
