April Reading Challenge Results

In case you don't recall (and I don't recall what I had for breakfast, so why would you recall a post from earlier this month?) the Reading Romances 2012 April Challenge was all about Alternate Realities month! You can revisit my original post, but I've left an overview and my review of my challenge book below. If you've joined the reading challenge, I hope you've left your review at the Reading Romances site so you're entered for The Matchmaker's Mark giveaway!

Staying Alive Updates

This past week my brilliant daughter has been playing HvZ on her college campus. Since the game began on Sunday, she's been sending me "Stayin' Alive" text messages. The song's been stuck in my head ever since (which I'm sure is just a bonus for her).

Those messages are fun, and I in turn update the rest of the family. They invariably ask me questions I can't answer - usually in regard to the particulars of the game. For me, it's not about the particulars - I'm not there so I don't have to

Inquiring Minds Ask a Paranormal Romance Author

As a paranormal romance author, it's my goal to write novels packed with action all the way to the happily ever after endings. What can I say? I'm a hopeful romantic who loves adventure!

Recently some of the circumstances of the world building in my 2096 Shadows of Justice series have readers asking "How did you come up with that?" So I thought I'd answer a few of the most frequent questions:

Why 2096?

Blame it on 1066. It was a crazy year of upheaval in England and the first time

Love and Legends In The Matchmaker's Mark

You might think research is secondary for a paranormal romance writer, but personally I find so much inspiration in the research process. The Matchmaker's Mark, the first novel in my lighthearted paranormal romance series, is set in Charleston, South Carolina a place that is full of legends and history. Many times, those legends include tales of great love.

One of the my favorite scenes in The Matchmaker's Mark takes place in the Unitarian Churchyard when the matchmaker meets the Lady in

When Reality Bites

As an award winning paranormal romance author, I often blog about world building for paranormal romance novels or how to glean world building tips for your novel from your every day life.

But sometimes reality is less than inspiring. Sometimes reality just bites.

That's when you need fiction. As an author or a reader, these biting reality moments are best soothed with an escape read of some sort. Whatever your fave genre, escape reading is better for you than say, eating that box of Girl

Use What You've Got For Your World Building

It’s use it or lose it time. Not just because I'll be turning my Perfect Endings online class into published writer's guide like I did with my goal setting class. And not just because the recent interview with romance novel cover model Jason Baca re-energized my physical therapy and exercise routines.

Nope, use it or lose it is a phrase that applies to nearly everything in writing as well.

Whether you’re searching for ways to beef up the world of your paranormal romance novel, or just
