Springing Forward With Adopted Greyhounds

Don’t worry. I know the Daylight Savings time change occurred last weekend, and as I’ve mentioned our adopted greyhounds were pleased that breakfast came early. But a friend pointed me to this article from the NYTimes suggesting dog ownership is better for you than owning a treadmill.

It’s a cool article, and a philosophy I agree with. Walking is wonderfully beneficial at ‘both ends of the leash’ says the expert quoted by the Times. I used to love our long walks with our adopted and foster greyhounds, they’re such easygoing companions and being ‘seen’ with them helps promote awareness.

But I digress as the Times article has a fitness focus.

The End Is A Process For This Paranormal Romance Author

Signs “The End” the end is near – at least as the term applies to writing paranormal romance novels.

When I’m drafting a novel, I cycle through the typical highs and lows of a writer’s life. I’m convinced it’s all crap, then thrilled when I nail a tough scene. Then I worry that there isn’t enough plot or conflict to flesh it out. I start dreaming of the amazing success that the next book will be. I even dawdle in deep analysis of my current sales. Often as I approach ‘the end’ I’ll indulge in rich fantasies of of writing historical romances ala Eloisa James or Sabrina Jeffries.

But I know I’m close to putting a wrap on a novel when I have to fight intense urges to clean closets, do yard work, remodel the kitchen, or paint.

All these bubbling distractions and emotions present a clear and present danger of quitting the book, possibly even abandoning writing for-ev-er! Or at least until the next sunrise.

My support network is patient as any contact, calls, emails, and lunch dates...

Celtic Elements of Paranormal Romance Novels

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of you of Irish heritage or the desire to celebrate with fab food like Soda Bread, fish and chips, and green beer!

When my daughter was in Kindergarten the teachers honored St. Patrick’s day with “Lenny the Leprechaun”. He would pull all sorts of mischief throughout the day: moving chairs, turning snacks green, and leaving a trail of glitter in his wake and in turn the children would build traps, hoping to catch him. In honor of all the lighthearted fun and mischief to be had in fiction featuring Celtic lore, I decided to look at Celtic elements of paranormal romance novels.

Among the many things that come to mind when I think of Ireland, the rich storytelling traditions are at the top of the list. Many a paranormal romance author has capitalized (and rightly so) on the legends, both fun and frightening, that populate Celtic history and mythology.

One of my favorite Nora Roberts trilogies is the Gallagher trilogy set on the Irish coast in Ardmore. (Jewels of the Sun,

Why Post A Paranormal Romance Novel On Facebook?

If you’ve been wondering why I’ve launched my latest paranormal romance novel on Facebook, you aren’t alone. People have repeatedly asked me what I’m thinking or what I hope to accomplish by posting an entire novel, written in “real time”, daily installments on Facebook.

The obvious answer is I’m nuts – putting a book out there before it’s polished to perfection.

The real answer is I’m an alpha female type of paranormal romance author who writes a series readers and reviewers enjoy. This seemed like a fun way to introduce more people to my work and reward them for joining my new page on Facebook.

No, I’m not even close to the 5000 friend limit on my profile, but I wanted a more specific way to connect with readers on the popular social network.

So I’ve been posting a short note (about 1000 words) every day and will continue these daily posts until the book is finished. Then, after I add in the scenes I felt were too ‘intimate’ for facebook and put the book through editing, I’ll release the polished novel on kindle and other ebook outlets.

Read An Ebook Week is Here!

That’s right, March 6-12 is officially Read An Ebook Week!

We might well subtitle this week as “Celebrate the Reader Week”, because ebooks are one of the best ways authors of every genre can get their books directly to readers. Read an Ebook Week has been going on for many years, but as eReading devices have become more accessible and ebook retailers and libraries offer increasing options for readers, I predict this will be the biggest year ever.

Which is great news for ebook readers as well as the paranormal romance authors who are learning how to bring quality products to the market.

Naturally, I’d like you to read my Shadows of Justice novels and other short stories, all available as ebooks (on Kindle and other formats) but of course it’s up to you and what you like to read.

Paranormal romance authors are dynamic examples of the why the ebook market is expanding every day.

The Emotional Elements of Paranormal Romance Novels

There are so many elements that can turn a story into a paranormal novel with or without a romantic element.

But the emotional impact is what makes a reader, thoroughly engaged with a spooky story jump when the cat hops onto the chair, or tear up over a heartbreaking moment in a romance.

Emotion, or rather evoking emotion, is a key element of a paranormal romance novel. It’s the key that unlocks the many layers of entertainment most paranormal romance novels offer the reader.

Where do authors get the emotion to use it as a key element of paranormal romance novels?
